1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to guide all fundraising activities of the Global Literacy Organization (GLO). It ensures that funds are raised ethically, responsibly, and in alignment with our mission to advance literacy, education, and empowerment for children and communities worldwide.

2. Guiding Principles

  • Mission Alignment: All fundraising efforts must directly support GLO’s literacy programs, including scholarships, book drives, feeding programs, and teacher retention initiatives.

  • Integrity & Transparency: GLO commits to honesty in all appeals, ensuring donors understand how contributions are used.

  • Respect for Donors: GLO values every contribution, regardless of size, and treats all donors with confidentiality, gratitude, and respect.

  • Equity & Inclusion: Fundraising materials and practices will be free from discrimination, and reflect the diversity and dignity of the communities we serve.

3. Fundraising Practices

  • Truthful Representation: All communications will accurately describe GLO’s mission, goals, and the impact of donations. Misleading or exaggerated claims will not be permitted.

  • Use of Funds: Donations will be used for their intended purpose. Restricted gifts will be applied as specified by the donor, while unrestricted gifts will support overall literacy initiatives.

  • Accountability: Annual financial reports, including breakdowns of fundraising revenue and expenditures, will be made publicly available.

4. Donor Rights

  • To be informed of GLO’s mission and how donations are used.

  • To receive acknowledgment and receipts for contributions in a timely manner.

  • To have their personal information kept confidential and not shared without consent.

  • To be treated with respect and appreciation for their generosity.

5. Ethical Standards

  • GLO does not accept donations that conflict with its mission, values, or reputation.

  • Fundraising will not exploit vulnerable populations; images and stories will be used with dignity and respect.

  • GLO prohibits offering or accepting gifts, payments, or benefits that create conflicts of interest.

6. Oversight & Review

The Board of Directors will oversee fundraising practices and review this policy annually to ensure it remains consistent with best practices and donor expectations.
